here's a little throwback ...
Holy Ghost: Firstly i want to thank you for taking the time out to do this interview and for answering the questions put to you from the warcloud forum members.
Holy Ghost: How did you meet Skarekrow, Alcatraz, Vulgar, Onslawt, Monstar Mob etc..?
The Pro: Well I met The one and only SkareKrow through Warcloud some time ago. And I have known Vulgar and Onslwat for as long as I can remember.
Holy Ghost: Why are you called “The Professional”? & do you have any aliases?
The Pro: I call myself The Professional because when I was younger I wanted to be a Professional baseball player but, of course that never happened. So now this music is my profession. I have yet to tap into my full potential and in due time people will see why I call myself the Professional. I chose that name a long time ago before every business called themselves the pro this or the pro that. If you go into a record store now you wont find any other rap artist by the name Professional. I have other names like DR. MIND BENDER, PRO THE LEADER, and many others you might hear me say throughout my albums.
Holy Ghost: Do you have a 9-5 or do you make music full time?
The Pro: Both but, I try and make music every chance I get to the point where I am thinking of album names, rhymes, and rap names etc. all day. It seems like it never ends.
Holy Ghost: You’re a deep underground hip-hop artists, why is it that nobody can find any info about you or any pictures? is it your style to stay "the mysterious mc"?
The Pro: You could say that their is alot of mystery to my style.
Holy Ghost: So.. any chance of a picture of yourself?
The Pro: Soon.. in an album booklet I will throw some pictures of myself in it.
Holy Ghost: Can you tell us a bit more about yourself? Age, real name, nationality, religion, etc..?
The Pro: Im 25 and have been into music since I was very young. Im white and I can remember when being white and listening to Hip Hop wasnt the thing to be. Back in the day you had to have personality and skill before anyone would take you serious.
Holy Ghost: How and when did you get involved into hip-hop music? Did you grow up with it or did you grow into it?
The Pro: Both really.. I grew up listening to every thing but as time went on the only music I really felt was Hip Hop. It expressed how I was feeling and what I was going through, not to mention the albums seemed to have more lyrical content.
Holy Ghost: What were you doing in the 90s? Were you working with any influences? If so, who were they?
The Pro: I was analyzing and studying rap styles so that I could develope my own. Soakin up all the music that I could get my hands on. I was around people that would freestyle and kick raps so I started spittin and writng my own raps. Tryin to get my first piece of equiptment and rappin out of a set of headphones.
Holy Ghost: Who are your greatest influences in hip-hop/life? Do you have a mentor/role model?
The Pro: I dont have any role models but my greatest influence is everything around me. The people I do music with, a conversation I had during the day or something I picked up and read. I get alot of energy when I hear an ill beat.. words appear faster in my mind than I can write them down.
Holy Ghost: How critical are you about yourself? (im my biggest critic)
The Pro: I am very critical about my music. If I dont feel it then forget it. Albums frustrate me at times because you cant get things to sound the way you pictured them in you head all the time. So then you might have to scrap an idea that you thought was mad sick. Some things dont always work out as planned so that is why you might have albums that were supposed to come out that never do. Or they hit the shelves months after they were supposed to or even years after the fact. Maybe during the making of one album a once in a life time opportunity came by to work with an emcee or producder, and the artist had to put the first album he was doing on hold.
Holy Ghost: What did you study for in school/college/further education?
The Pro: In the future I will go back to school and study the more technical ways to mix down my music. I like to mix down my own music. I would always like to be better at that.
Holy Ghost: What made you develop your unique style? & what influenced you to make these hardcore sounds?
The Pro: I have been through alot so that is the intensity you hear in my voice. I developed my style over many years of writng rhymes, makin beats and scopin out the different types of Hip Hop that has came through out the years. As you go on your styles change.. I mean, you grow as a person and so should your music. Some might feel you and others wont but you have to do what feels right for you or everything your doing will be for the wrong reasons. The hardocore part comes from not being a hardcore gangster or drug dealer but in stems from being so hardcore into this music that every minute of the day is consumed with it. You know getting albums when they first come out. I like to stay up on these things, the music is always changing. The beats people use, the rhyme patterns, the machines to make beats on, and new labels comin out, always changing. I dont like soft music so every thing I do has to be hardcore, good, real, hype music.
Holy Ghost: I think you are a versatile rapper. How many different styles have you got? And do you have names for these styles?
The Pro: I just try and bring it on the mic. I have more styles than I can remember dating from years back.
Holy Ghost: Will you be doing any more tracks with the "life’s mysteries" style?
The Pro: That is one of my older styles and I might decide and use it again. That song is from my first album called Plethora Of Lyrics, I used that style alot on that album. I have more songs on that album with Warcloud that sound similar to that one.
Holy Ghost: Can u freestyle battle? Hit me with a couple of bars..
The Pro: Yeah I can freestyle but you cant hear my voice through the computer.. it wouldnt be the same typing rhymes than hearing them first hand.
Holy Ghost: Do you plan to remain strictly underground?
The Pro: I would like to evolve and get more recognition you know, have people all over the world playing my cds and if time will allow that to happen then I would be very pleased. But I will always be an underground artist regardless.
Holy Ghost: Are you hoping to get a major record deal?
The Pro: If somebody throws me the right offer with complete creative freedom and control then I can make whatever record I want why not? skys the limit.
Holy Ghost: Do you have a tour planned - be it international or not?
The Pro: Not right now.. all that will come in the future.
Holy Ghost: Which artists would you most like to collaborate with/dream collabo?
The Pro: I would like to work with Opio or Del The Funky Homosapien from Hieroglyphics. They and the rest of the Hiero crew have been puttin it down for years.
Holy Ghost: Ever since pros lab was released we have not heard you colab with Alcatraz.. Is there a reason for this? And do you think there will be a reunion on any future tracks/albums?
The Pro: I had 2 colabs with Alcatraz on the Vulgar album. But as far as a reunion, I unite with Warcloud all the time. I have done dozens of songs if not more with Alcatraz. He is one of the most talented people I have ever met. He just blows away anyone on the mic. I have another album comin out soon (hip hop endurance) that he will be featured on 3 songs. I am also featured on 5 songs on The Alcatraz Jigsaw Puzzle album.
Holy Ghost: Are you satisfied with the response you have received for your initial forays into hip-hop? And where do you plan on going from here? What are your overall future plans?
The Pro: I am very pleased with the response that I have recieved. Alcatraz and SkareKrow have blessed me with alot of support aswell as the fans. I can only go up from here and hopefully we all can prosper and get things goin.
Holy Ghost: You seem to surprise us with new albums out of the blue and i know your ALWAYS in the studio.. Are there any surprises in store for us in the near future?
The Pro: Well If I told you then I guess It wouldnt be a surprise would it. But you can always expect the unexpected. I am also working on an album will my friend Dopestyle from the bay area. He has done work with such artists as Kool Kieth, Vast Aire, Motion Man, and Del The Funky Homosapien. You should check out his album in stores call Dopestyle 1231 and his website nightmaresoul.com.
Holy Ghost: Who are you feeling as of now, on an underground level?
The Pro: I am feelin The Monstar Mob, Alcatraz, the Hiero crew and a few others.
Holy Ghost: Do you have a favourite album?
The Pro: Casuals Fear Itself, Raekwons Only Built for Cuban Links, Gzas Liquid Swords, Smif N Wessuns Da Shinin, Hieroglyphics Third Eye Vision, Warclouds Nightmares That Surface From Shallow Sleep, Smuglin Booze In The Graveyard and Saffir Box Car Sessions
Holy Ghost: Do you consider yourself wu affiliated?
The Pro: Not at all.
Holy Ghost: Have you ever performed in front of a live audience? & how was it?
The Pro: Yes I have, and the first few times it is always a little awkward.
Holy Ghost: Can we expect any video’s/dvd’s of yourself? Maybe a "day in the life of the professional"?
The Pro: Not any time soon but maybe in the futrue, but that is always a possibility.
Holy Ghost: If you wasn’t in the rap game what would you be doing?
The Pro: Truthfully.. I dont have a clue what I would be doing? I have consumed myself so much with this music I cant see my self doing anything else.
Holy Ghost: What’s your favourite movie and why?
The Pro: Menace 2 Society and all of the Cheech and Chong movies. That is the stuff I grew up on, those movies are classics.
Holy Ghost: If you could be a cartoon character, existing or made up, who would you be?
The Pro: I would be Pro The Leader and I would detach my forearm and it would transform into a microphone.
Holy Ghost: If you had one word to describe yourself what word would that be?
The Pro: Determined!
